Underhill Associates has come a long way since its beginnings as a small company with the sole task of renovating the Kentucky Towers, which was originally built in 1924. Taking on a complete makeover, Underhill converted the the hotel from 550 rooms into 285 apartments. After the renovation project, George and Ann Underhill began Underhill Associates in 1971 for the purpose of managing the apartment rentals. This project sparked vision and desire to "redevelop" the community. Ann and George began renovations downtown on 3rd Street and Louisville's old city blocks. They converted old homes and buildings that were underappreciated, abandoned, and left alone since their original construction into community complexes where families could begin to live again. Underhill Associates paved the way to recreate housing in an area where high quality living space was sparse at the time. "Many of these areas were in great need of housing,” explained George Underhill Jr. It was then that Underhill Associates was able to fill this need for the community. Not only did they renovate many of the properties, they also maintained them in order to help keep living conditions at their best. George Underhill Jr. traveled around the country to speak about the importance of redeveloping communities. Reestablished, once forgotten old communities were very important to George and Ann. In support of the community, Underhill Associates strives to maintain their goal of refurbishing one subsidized housing project per year. Underhill Associates is currently responsible for more than 2,000,000 square feet of multifamily, office, and retail developments, which have won numerous awards. In keeping with tradition since 1971, the company continues to be family owned and operated.	History
